Share I would like to know who decided to change the rules of the road at the intersection at NW 18th and NW Hood St. (on Prune Hill). The change is accident waiting to happen. The Yield vs. Stop signs and road lane markings are very confusing. This intersection is unsafe. Why do I say this? Because I’ve almost been hit twice and flipped off once for stopping at a posted stop sign. Seriously, who made this decision. A simple three-way stop sign would have been more than adequate here. on Facebook Share I would like to know who decided to change the rules of the road at the intersection at NW 18th and NW Hood St. (on Prune Hill). Carriecwik asked about 22 hours agoThank you for using Engage Camas and thank you for your question. The City has implemented a traffic revision at the intersection of NW 18th Avenue and NW Hood Street, transitioning the intersection into a curve to allow smoother movement through the area. Northbound traffic on NW Hood St now has a free right turn to eastbound NW 18th Ave. Westbound traffic on NW 18th now has a free left turn to southbound NW Hood St. A stop sign has been installed for southbound traffic on NW Hood St at NW 18th Ave.
This adjustment is designed to reflect how most drivers naturally navigate the space and was done – in part – to address previous complaints about hazards at this intersection. The new signage and striping is consistent with national standards, and additional signage will be installed soon to provide more clarity to drivers.
We appreciate the community’s attention to the updated signage and ask all travelers to proceed cautiously as drivers adjust to the new configuration. City staff will monitor the situation as drivers adjust to the new signage.

Share Will fireworks finally be banned within the Camas city limits this year? Fire danger is a growing and a very real threat in our area, not to mention the detrimental impact fireworks have on those with autism and PTSD, babies, pets and wildlife and the environment. We live near Dorothy Fox school and it's like a war zone here on the 4th. Unfortunately many people seem to think it's ok to shoot them off days before and after as well. Please consider the potential harm for our loved ones, pir babies, our homes, our pets, wildlife, green spaces, air quality, etc. Thank you. on Facebook Share Will fireworks finally be banned within the Camas city limits this year? Slaz asked 14 days agoThank you for using Engage Camas and thank you for your question. The City Council has discussed fireworks many times, and recently decided to Ban Mortar Fireworks. However, a full ban has not been issued. Additionally, fireworks can be banned during the summer season due to weather factors, however, that decision is based on a specific weather criteria and is ultimately made by the Fire Chief, Fire Marshall and Mayor. We encourage you to provide a public comment at one of our many Council meetings or you can also send comments to Council members anytime @ administration@cityofcamas.us

Share I would like to know if it’s allowed to alter the walking paths in the green spaces? Particularly the one that runs alongside Lake Rd. behind the Lakeridge North subdivision. It appears to me that mountain bikers are widening the paths, cutting trees that fall across the paths, banking the turns and making jumps. It erodes the soil, it impacts the wildlife, rogue trails are created and I believe it socially impacts people, like myself, that enjoy walking those paths. on Facebook Share I would like to know if it’s allowed to alter the walking paths in the green spaces? JoJoMa asked 4 months agoThank you for using Engage Camas and thank you for your question. Generally speaking, the City does not allow modification to trails or walking paths without working directly with the City to determine if it's needed, and how the work will be completed. The building of jumps and other obstacles is also not permitted without the consent/permission of the City. With that being said, Staff will inspect the area you have mentioned and will determine next steps following that inspection.

Share Can we please put some speed bumps on NW 6th Ave? East of the roundabout on the west entrance to the city the speed limit is 35mph. There are a number of houses, businesses, bus stops, a couple of cross walks and a public park with two baseball fields on this section between downtown Camas and the highway off/on ramps in the Forest Home neighborhood. Despite the posted speed limit and the fact that there are regularly dozens of children and their families at Forest Home Park, drivers speed past with no regard! Because it is a four lane road, you can often witness cars racing in both directions. I believe this is due to drivers headed to, or just exiting the highway. I realize this is a major in/egress to the city, but in many ways it looks, sounds and feels like my neighborhood is not much more than an on/off ramp for SR14. on Facebook Share Can we please put some speed bumps on NW 6th Ave? CDnNae asked 6 months agoThank you for using Engage Camas and thank you for your question and concerns. Generally, the City would not use speed humps as a traffic calming tool on a main arterial. With that being said, we understand your concerns and will reach out to CPD in regards to possible speeding in the area. Please note, residents can also contact Camas PD with speeding concerns and those will be investigated.

Share I'd like to know when the city will hold meetings to decide the zoning for the 9-acre parcel of UL land that the Camas School district will sell-off. Of particular concern is the type of housing and businesses to be permitted and the plans for traffic management (signal or round-about)at the corner of Leadbetter and Lake Road - which is getting increasingly busy/hazardous and is presumed to only get worse with the development of the 9 acres. RB asked 8 months agoThank you for using Engage Camas, and thank you for your question.
The City is currently undergoing an update to the Comprehensive Plan that will consider changes to the City’s future land use map. The primary focus of any updates to the future land use map will be to ensure that the City has adequate capacity for projected housing and employment needs and to align future growth with the Our Camas 2045 vision statement. As part of this process, the Camas School District has notified the City of their desired plans for the Leadbetter Property and requested that the City designate the 9-acre portion of this property as “Mixed Use” to allow for both commercial and residential development on this portion of the site.
The School District’s request will be considered comprehensively with other possible map changes as part of the Comprehensive Plan update and citizens will be able to provide feedback on the School District’s request throughout the Comprehensive Plan update process. We will be holding a community summit in late October (date to be announced soon) to specifically discuss future land use map alternatives. Final decisions on the Leadbetter Property will be made after public hearings with the Planning Commission and City Council next Spring and Summer. Meeting dates and other updates are available at engagecamas.com/OurCamas2045.

Share Can we put speed bumps and/or a three way stop sign on Dahlia Rd near 36th Ave leading up towards the top of the hill? Dahlia is a 25mph street and connects the two neighborhoods. People frequently go 45-50mph on this street, drive down the middle to avoid the traffic road narrowing devices in place, and have no regard to the speed limit. This street has a school bus stop on it as well making this concern for speeding even more pertinent for the safety of the children in the neighborhood. My request is to have either speed bumps or a three way stop sign placed at 36th Ave and Dahlia or potentially both if able. 36th and Dahlia is a good place for a stop sign in my opinion as it is the beginning of the uphill towards the top of the hill so this will force drivers to slow down/stop when they are driving down this street. 36th and Dahlia also is the school bus stop so this three way stop sign would be imperative to our children’s safety. on Facebook Share Can we put speed bumps and/or a three way stop sign on Dahlia Rd near 36th Ave leading up towards the top of the hill? However, the Our Camas 2045 Comprehensive plan and the Our Downtown Camas Subarea plan will look at public art and how it fits into both plans.
