  • Share Can we please put some speed bumps on NW 6th Ave? East of the roundabout on the west entrance to the city the speed limit is 35mph. There are a number of houses, businesses, bus stops, a couple of cross walks and a public park with two baseball fields on this section between downtown Camas and the highway off/on ramps in the Forest Home neighborhood. Despite the posted speed limit and the fact that there are regularly dozens of children and their families at Forest Home Park, drivers speed past with no regard! Because it is a four lane road, you can often witness cars racing in both directions. I believe this is due to drivers headed to, or just exiting the highway. I realize this is a major in/egress to the city, but in many ways it looks, sounds and feels like my neighborhood is not much more than an on/off ramp for SR14. on Facebook Share Can we please put some speed bumps on NW 6th Ave? Thank you for using Engage Camas and thank you for your question and concerns. Generally, the City would not use speed humps as a traffic calming tool on a main arterial. With that being said, we understand your concerns and will reach out to CPD in regards to possible speeding in the area. Please note, residents can also contact Camas PD with speeding concerns and those will be investigated.

Thank you for using Engage Camas, and thank you for your question.

The City is currently undergoing an update to the Comprehensive Plan that will consider changes to the City’s future land use map. The primary focus of any updates to the future land use map will be to ensure that the City has adequate capacity for projected housing and employment needs and to align future growth with the Our Camas 2045 vision statement. As part of this process, the Camas School District has notified the City of their desired plans for the Leadbetter Property and requested that the City designate the 9-acre portion of this property as “Mixed Use” to allow for both commercial and residential development on this portion of the site.

The School District’s request will be considered comprehensively with other possible map changes as part of the Comprehensive Plan update and citizens will be able to provide feedback on the School District’s request throughout the Comprehensive Plan update process. We will be holding a community summit in late October (date to be announced soon) to specifically discuss future land use map alternatives. Final decisions on the Leadbetter Property will be made after public hearings with the Planning Commission and City Council next Spring and Summer. Meeting dates and other updates are available at engagecamas.com/OurCamas2045.

  • Share Can we put speed bumps and/or a three way stop sign on Dahlia Rd near 36th Ave leading up towards the top of the hill? Dahlia is a 25mph street and connects the two neighborhoods. People frequently go 45-50mph on this street, drive down the middle to avoid the traffic road narrowing devices in place, and have no regard to the speed limit. This street has a school bus stop on it as well making this concern for speeding even more pertinent for the safety of the children in the neighborhood. My request is to have either speed bumps or a three way stop sign placed at 36th Ave and Dahlia or potentially both if able. 36th and Dahlia is a good place for a stop sign in my opinion as it is the beginning of the uphill towards the top of the hill so this will force drivers to slow down/stop when they are driving down this street. 36th and Dahlia also is the school bus stop so this three way stop sign would be imperative to our children’s safety. on Facebook Share Can we put speed bumps and/or a three way stop sign on Dahlia Rd near 36th Ave leading up towards the top of the hill? Thank you for your comments/question and thank you for using Engage Camas. Unfortunately, the City does not currently have a public art policy in place. However, the Our Camas 2045 Comprehensive plan and the Our Downtown Camas Subarea plan will look at public art and how it fits into both plans.

Thank you for using Engage Camas and thank you for your question. As of right now, fireworks are legal in Camas. Each year when fireworks season rolls around our Fire Dept., in conjunction with other officials in Clark County will determine if the weather conditions signify a high risk for the possibility of fires. If that is determined, the City can ban fireworks for that specific time period, and we have done so in the past. Please note, the City Council is currently discussing fireworks, and if additional regulations are needed. You can voice your concerns by reaching out to your specific Council member ( https://www.cityofcamas.us/citycouncil/page/city-council-members) or by sending an email to administration@cityofcamas.us. Sending a comment to that address will ensure that is it seen by Council and City Administration.

Thank you for using Engage Camas and thank you for your question. Technically the projects you referenced, and street preservation are two different areas, and are completed with different funds. Currently, the City of Camas has a budget of around $1 million per year to spend on street preservation and maintenance. As you might imagine, that goes quickly in a City our size, with as many miles of roads that we have. As such, we prioritize areas for preservation each year. To preserve/repair more roads, we would need to increase funding for that area, which currently means we would need to pull from other general services.
