The City has chosen two projects, The Crown Park Regional Stormwater Retrofit Project and the Downtown Camas Regional Stormwater Retrofit Project, which will allow for planning and design which will protect and improve water quality in the Washougal River and Columbia River, by treating a combined surface runoff for 216 acres of contributing area. Both projects represent large percentages of existing surface runoff that is untreated before entering local waterways. These projects will improve flow control and surface water treatment for areas of the Upper Camas Slough which were built prior to the advent stormwater regulations. The City has applied for two separate Water Quality Combined Funding grants with the Department of Ecology to help fund the projects. Ecology will publish the proposed project list for the grants in January 2024. Please see the attachments in our "documents" section for additional information.

As many know, stormwater plays a vital role in our ecosystem. As such, it's important to manage our stormwater. With that in mind, the city is trying to create opportunities for the public to influence the SMAP Report and the planning actions targeted in it. The city believes the public could influence this step by providing ideas such as: locations to prioritize retrofits, prioritization of Stormwater Management Actions (SMAs), preference for types of structural Best Management Practices, type of public education/outreach desired, weigh-in on what they believe should be short-term vs. long-term actions, feedback on the best way to engage them during the adaptive management process, and more.

This feedback is being solicited from the public through community surveys, public meetings, and opportunities to provide comments via a variety of online interfaces. These ideas will then be considered when stormwater management action planning takes place and capital improvement projects are chosen for the selected priority basin.

Please check back in mid to late January to comment on the updated SMAP webpage. We are encouraging comments on the City’s planned stormwater management actions (SMAs) for Upper Camas Slough. Be part of the stormwater management action planning process, explore the Story Map.
