What is Community Character?

Community Character can be described in many ways, but for the purposes of the Comprehensive Plan, the Community Character element (or chapter) will identify what makes Camas special and unique today and the goals and policies that are needed to continue to foster an environment of belonging and connection as the city grows.

The Community Character element includes a vision and three goals, as follows.

VISION: In 2045, Camas is an inclusive community where residents experience a sense of belonging and connection. History, art, and culture are celebrated and accessible to all community members. There is a strong sense of shared community through open communication, meaningful outreach and lasting partnerships. The natural landscape is incorporated thoughtfully into the urban environment to foster a connection to nature.

Goal CC-1 Art, Culture, and Heritage

Camas is a city where history, art and culture are celebrated and accessible to all. Camas events and activities will instill a sense of belonging among residents of all ages, making Camas an ideal place to live and work.

Goal CC-2 Sustainable Growth and Distinct Identity

Camas’ unique identity is enhanced by high-quality urban design that respects the natural landscape, fosters a connection to nature, and integrates sustainable development.

Goal CC-3 Community Engagement

Camas will have a strong sense of community through open communication, inclusive and meaningful outreach efforts, and enduring partnerships throughout the community.
