The Citywide ADA Self-Evaluation Update and Transition Plan project consists of reviewing and updating the current Citywide Self-Evaluation and ADA Transition Plan to ensure fulfillment of the requirements summarized in the WSDOT ADA Notice to Local Governments Letter, dated September 5, 2024.
Background
City of Camas conducted a City-wide Self-Evaluation and ADA Transition Plan in May of 2015. The Transition Plan met Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. The Plan identified and prioritized areas within the city that needed updated ADA facilities. The City of Camas has adhered to the plan’s guidelines and completed a substantial number of the projects listed.
The following related documents are available on the City of Camas website:
In September 2024, WSDOT released a notification that to remain in compliance with ADA and Section 504, WSDOT would be requiring all local agencies with more than fifty full-time employees and are receiving FHWA funds to provide documentation demonstrating they have started, or completed, an ADA transition plan by January 1, 2025.
May 16, 2025 – We’re looking for members and advocates of the Camas disability community to get involved! If you would like to join our project Community Advisory Committee (CAC), please email jcarothers@cityofcamas.us or call 360.817.1561 by June 16, 2025.
Purpose
To ensure accessibility for all who live, work, and play in incorporated Camas, we are updating two important plans:
Self-Evaluation Plan (SEP) – A study of our current curb ramps, traffic signal, sidewalks, policies, and practices to ensure there are no barriers to people with disabilities in the public right of way.
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan – An outline including priorities, schedules, and budgets for removing accessibility barriers identified in the SEP.
Goals
To make these updates, we will be taking a close look at the sidewalks, crosswalks, curb ramps, pedestrian signals, and other components of public right-of-way—that is, the area on a public roadway, highway, street, or alley that allows people to pass through or use these areas.
We’ll also be learning firsthand from members and advocates of disability community what barriers they experience and then reflecting their challenges, suggestions, and priorities in our plans,
Get Involved in the Community Advisory Committee (CAC)
If you are a member or advocate of the disability community and would like to become a member of the CAC, please email jcarothers@cityofcamas.us or call 360.817.1561.
As part of the committee, members will take part in approximately three sessions to learn more about the project and offer input.
Sessions may include virtual meetings, in-person meetings, and/or on-site tours, and all will be created with accessibility in mind.
Additional Community Involvement
There will be multiple ways for the community to offer input.
Opportunities will be posted here and publicized broadly when details are in place.
Background
These plans require regular updates and were last performed in 2015. The following related documents are available on the City of Camas website:
